11-2-16....Stan & Joanie returned to Dataw Island a week after the storm. Of the 900 residents, 50 or so had fallen-tree related damage. Their immediate neighbors had 25, 15 & 19 down while on Stan's property a large magnolia in the front was down, a hickory was resting on the house & smaller trees were on the ground. Fortunately no one on Dataw was hurt (50 people stayed & endured 5 days without power or phones). All damage on the island was from falling trees. |

Fortunately their Dataw Island, SC house was spared any damage. It's on an acre of land with lots of trees, many might be down but he & Joanie won't know until power is restored & they can return to the island. |

Stan Karmilovich | 1-1-16.....After having sent 3 kids thru Clemson, brought on a son-in-law Clemson grad, and now have 4 grandkids enrolled as Clemson students, I'm surprised that y'all haven't sent me mountains of congratulatory emails on Clemson's fine win over Oklahoma (just as they had last year). But I forgive you if you didn't know where I spend my fall Saturdays....at Clemson football games! In any case, say a special prayer for the Tigers as they come up against Alabama on the 11th. And, Happy New Year to all of you! |

I now have 70 pounds of shrimp I caught at our dock in my freezer. Shooting for 100! |
10/30....Esther emailed that she & Dave just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary, so it is an extra special time of year for them. Dave has been dealing with a setback from his valve surgery in June. He now requires oxygen 24/7....hopefully with rehab it will improve. |

7/13....Esther sent the following update on David...... "Just to let you all know that David had to visit the Big House(Harrisburg Hosp) again on Sun. a.m. This time he went via a fancy ambulance. His breathing became very labored and difficult and gray is not my favorite color. ICU has done a fantastic job and as I send this e-mail he is sitting up in chair at his bedside with a very high concentration of oxygen. A CAT scan is on the agenda for today to see if there is some specific reason for this fluid accumulation to happen again. The Lasix has done it's job by eliminating 2 liters(guarts) yesterday and 1.5 liters so far today. Hopefully these wrinkles will be ironed out and he can start making some real progress with his new parts. I think we will be here for a few days and I will send you updates as needed. We appreciate all the prayers, cards and concerns." |

In the meantime, I would love to receive updates on my fellow classmates. If you can, please 'snail mail' some info to me. My new address is 3 Manor Drive, Apt. 103, Binghamton, NY 13905. As soon as the snow and cold weather start again, I will want to reassess what the heck I am doing here! The Carolinas are looking better each winter. I hope to someday find my 'forever house' but at 75, it's probably too late. I am running out of energy to pack boxes. Please give my warm regards to everyone." Nancy Gebler |

Hopefully we can get together at some point when we are at the Lake! We send our regards to all and I know you will have a great time. Take care and stay well. Jim Muratt |
5/26/15....Regret that we will not be able to attend the Birthday Bash. David is scheduled to have open heart surgery(valve replacement) on June 22nd. He feels the less public exposure to germs would be in his best interest prior to such serious surgery . I feel this is a wise decision on his part. It sounds like the occasion will be enjoyable and kudos to the committee for their time and effort.I will look forward to seeing photos on the web site.. Asking for your prayers and positive thoughts. Happy Birthday to all. Dave and Esther Edwards |

Joe & Margie Gordon Zyblewski | 5/7/15......Our daughter has had pancreatic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital on April 3rd. We have been very busy helping her out and taking care of her family. She had her pancreas removed along with her spleen and about 4 inches of her intestine. Preparation for the surgery was 8 weeks with various tests etc and then the surgery. She has a small business. Her husband teaches school during the day and tries to keep the business going in the evening. So Marg cares for the kids meals laundry etc and I try to do other stuff. House chores yard ferry the grandchildren around etc. Needless to say we have a lot going on. Erin is one of 16 patients in the US to have this procedure done lapriscopically. Her recovery period is about 3 months. They were able to transplant islets from her pancreas to her liver but the islet count was less than they wanted. So she is now on an insulin program to adjust sugar levels. We hope to be able to attend the party but it all depends on recovery. So far she is doing well and the surgeons and docs are pleased with the recovery. She is on a powerful pain medication and cannot drive so we do all the hauling so to speak. She needs a lot of rest to get back to normal. As you can imagine it will take time & patience. We'll get back to you the end of May or 1st week of June. |

Tom Cowell (obit) | 11/8....Charlotte rec'd info from Gene Tomkoski regarding Tom Cowell's obit. The dates and names match so it appears to be correct. Tom passed away May 29, 2010 in Paynesville, Minn. His son, also named Tom, resides in Filley, Nebraska so there is a connection to the town which Joe Stanko first mentioned. https://danielfuneralhome.com/obituary_detail.php?id=1338 |

|
8/30.....As you know I've been looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion but a sprained ankle may change all that. Tuesday we were in Philadelphia...lots of walking around, perhaps too much. Took a late day train back and while getting off (steep drop) twisted the ankle. Ice and ace bandage helps, main problem is the two and a half hour drive to the reunion. If I'm not there, this is why.. Thanks in advance to all who have helped make the day a special one. |
|
8/29....Stan emailed that he was thankful to the reunion workers and the class of '58 for providing us with opportunities to get-together. He deeply regrets he won't be able to attend Saturday's reunion as he and his family are attending the opening day Clemson vs Georgia game. Hopefully you wonderful folks will pull off another magical get-together for the class of '58 in another 5 years". |

3/27..I still enjoy singing with our church choir and helping with many fund raisers. We celebrated our 40th anniversary with an 8 day Alaskan cruise and are making plans for a 14 day Hawaiian one next year. This completes our goal of visiting (not just driving thru ) all 50 states. In May it's an 8 day eastern Caribbean Island aboard Carnival Freedom; a 4 day Oct. cruise is also planned. My husband John continues to volunteer aboard LST 325, a fully operational Navy Museum ship that travels the nation's rivers and waterways to put this highly decorated WW 2 ship on display. He cooks for a crew of 45 that live, eat and work aboard ship. I volunteer in the gift shop during the ship's travels. Our son Shawn's daughter Kayla is now 14 and in 10th grade at Hazleton High; son Shane is 12 and in 7th grade at Drums School. Shawn and Brenda, who just completed her practical nursing program at Penn State, have been married 16 years. Probably most of our clasmates from the Newtown area will recognize it. |

Had a 50th Anniversary celebration (early) by going on Caribbean cruise with children and grand children, a first experience for most of them. Donny has been diagnosed with what is called a "silent" cancerous tumor where the pancreas, small intestine, bladder and stomach meet. Fortunately, he has no pain whatsoever. On the other hand, he is in an extremely weakened condition. The initial plan was for him to undergo a very complex, extended surgical procedure, but the doctors have now informed him that they do not believe his heart and overall weakened condition will allow them to safely perform this complicated surgery. Instead, he will shortly begin chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Since October 11, Donny has been in three hospitals for a total of about 30 days. He is currently back home resting and trying to build up his stamina so that he is up to receiving the two therapies. He is not up to doing much E-mail correspondence at this time, but I am sure he would be very appreciative to receive any cards and messages to let him know that he is in our thoughts and our prayers.
